New coach in Kirkland Lake
Trevor Ritchie has been hired as the new head coach of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Ritchie spent the latter portion of the 2018-2019 season as coach and general manager of the Elliot Lake Wildcats after Corey Bricknell departed the NOJHL team for a pro job in Hungary.
With Ritchie at the helm, Elliot Lake finished a distant fifth in the six-team West Division of the NOJHL and then lost in the preliminary round of the playoffs.
Kirkland Lake has been searching for a new hockey boss since parting ways with Ryan Wood after a 2018-2019 season in which the Gold Miners finished in second place in the East Division before losing in the semi-finals of the playoffs.
