1999 birth year defenseman Shawn Sloan has joined the Timmins Rock of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League after a season at the Central Canada Hockey League 2 level.

A small-sized defender, Sloan stands in at 5-foot-8 and weighs 150 pounds but Timmins general manager Kevin Peever said that he and Rock head coach Corey Beer “are very impressed with Shawn’s agility and his skating. His transition and his edge work are very good.”

Peever is confident that Sloan has the makings of a solid NOJHL defender, telling Postmedia that “we believe with him coming here and playing under Corey’s defence-first system he will turn into an excellent defenseman.”

Sloan and his family arrived in Timmins on Friday from their Cardinal, Ont. home and toured McIntyre Arena with members of the Rock organization.
