Nick Smith to Leamington

One of the longest-serving members in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League history of the Soo Thunderbirds has been traded, Hockey News North has confirmed.

High-scoring forward Nick Smith, a local product who was in his fourth full NOJHL season with the Thunderbirds, is now a member of the Leamington Flyers of the Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

A southwestern Ontario city of close to 28,000 residents, Leamington is located about 30 miles outside Windsor.

As for the Leamington hockey team, the Flyers are part of the three conference, 26-team GOJHL. The Flyers are in a battle with the London Nationals for first place in the Western Conference.

Smith, who will turn 21 years of age next month, certainly made his mark as an NOJHL points producer with the hometown Thunderbirds. The 5-foot-10, 155 pound Smith had 18 goals, 24 assists, 42 points in just 30 games for the Thunderbirds this season.

In all, Smith played in 180 regular season games for the Thunderbirds and totaled 91 goals, 100 assists, 191 points. He added 6 goals, 15 assists, 21 points in 34 playoff games.
