Barring any late change or modification, the Hockey Canada Registry will open as usual on June 1 to the 130 or so teams that are a part of the Canadian Jr. Hockey League. CJHL membership includes the 11 teams of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey.

The opening of the HCR means that teams and leagues that operate under the CJHL umbrella are free to sign and trade players ahead of the 2020-2021 season.

Besides the NOJHL, other members of the CJHL are the Central Canada Hockey League, Ontario Jr. Hockey League, Superior International Jr. Hockey League, Manitoba Jr. Hockey League, Saskatchewan Jr. Hockey League, Alberta Jr. Hockey League, British Columbia Hockey League, Quebec Jr. Hockey League and the Maritime Hockey League.

Any changes or alterations to the opening of the HCR would need to be made at the Hockey Canada spring congress, which is slated for May 30.

Asked by Hockey News North about his views on the HCR being open to the CJHL on June 1 — which is the usual open for business date — NOJHL commissioner Robert Mazzuca would only say this for the record: ” … if the HCR is open, the NOJHL will follow the regulations as we always do.”

Eleven teams currently make up the NOJHL — Soo Eagles, Soo Thunderbirds, Blind River Beavers, Espanola Express, Rayside Balfour Canadians, French River Rapids, Powassan Voodoos, Timmins Rock, Cochrane Crunch, Kirkland Lake Gold Miners and Hearst Lumberjacks.
