Call it a numbers game. As in a here and there, hodge podge of numbers as they pertain to the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

12 — Number of NOJHL teams that will compete in next week’s annual showcase tournament in Sudbury.

4 — Number of NOJHL teams that current Soo Eagles bench boss Jim Capy has coached. Others are Soo Thunderbirds, Blind River Beavers and erstwhile Soo Indians.

423 — Number of penalty minutes that NOJHL commissioner Rob Mazzuca racked up over three full seasons, from 1979 to 1982, as a hard-nosed Ontario Hockey League defenseman with the Sudbury Wolves.

834— Average per game number of fans to watch the Timmins Rock play at home thus far this season.

3 — Number of hometown players who are on the roster of the Hearst Lumberjacks. They are, forwards Samuel Bourdages and Jacy Fillion and defenseman Maxim Lacroix.

4— Number of rookies with the Lumberjacks who were teammates with the Kapuskasing Flyers of the Great North Midget Hockey League last season. They are, Bourdages, Fillion, Lacroix and goalie Nicholas Dube.

191 — Number of games that Kirkland Lake Gold Miners bench boss Ryan Wood won over the previous four seasons while coaching three different teams and winning four division titles and two championships in the Greater Metro Hockey League.

528— Number of games that Espanola Express coach Tom McCarthy played in during his National Hockey League career.

1— Number of offspring that Rayside-Balfour president Adrian Gedye has playing in the NHL. That would be currently-injured forward Tyler Bertuzzi of the Detroit Red Wings.

9— Number of NOJHL teams who advertise with HockeyNewsNorth.com. From East to West they are the Soo Eagles, Blind River Beavers, Espanola Express, Rayside-Balfour Canadians, French River Rapids, Timmins Rock, Kirkland Lake Gold Miners, Cochrane Crunch and Hearst Lumberjacks.
