The coach and general manager of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League intends to ice a summer team that will compete in showcase tournaments, Hockey News North has confirmed.

The Gold Miners played in only five games during this 2020-2021 NOJHL season — they won three of them — before shutting down due to public health unit guidelines relative to COVID-19.

Team officials say Kyle Smart will return to Kirkland Lake as its coach and general manager for the 2021-2022 NOJHL season.

And ahead of that, Smart is looking to recruit players to take part in summer showcase events.

A message on Kirkland Lake’s NOJHL website page notes that Smart, as the Gold Miners coach and general manager, is looking for players wishing to play summer tournament hockey for the ‘Northern Lights’. First showcase action is June 24-27 in Toronto. If you are interested in playing before (junior, Canadian university and American college) scouts, contact coach Smart, text or call, 613-922-1804.
