Rayside Balfour Canadians of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League have named a new associate coach with ties to the Sudbury area.

As Hockey News North was told on Thursday, Trevor Blanchard is joining Rayside Balfour as associate coach on the staff of holdover bench boss Steve Lauzon.

The 35-year old Blanchard has coached within the Sudbury AAA minor hockey system. He also has previous NOJHL coaching experience with the Sudbury Nickel Barons.

Blanchard is also a veteran of more than 240 Ontario Hockey League games as a left winger who played for three teams, including his hometown Sudbury Wolves.

Blanchard, who also skated at the Canadian university level for three years at Concordia, takes over from Clayton Bertrand as associate coach with Rayside Balfour.

Bertrand and assistant coach Vagelli Sakellaris recently departed Rayside Balfour to join former Canadians head master Dave Clancy with the rival Espanola Express.

Rayside Balfour is the defending NOJHL West Division champions.
