Rock limits Lumberjacks

The semi-final playoffs are underway in the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League. And the Timmins Rock limited the reigning NOJHL champion Hearst Lumberjacks to a mere 14 shots on goal en route to a 5-2 win in the opening game of the best-of-seven, East Division series.

Plying at home before more than 1,000 fans at McIntyre Arena, Josh Dickson tallied twice and captain Derek Seguin had three assists as the Rock halted the Lumberjacks.

No. 2 seed Timmins out-shot no. 3 seed Hearst by a 29-14 margin.

The other East Division semi begins on Friday when no. 1 seed Powassan Voodoos play host to no. 4 seed Cochrane Crunch.

Meanwhile, both West Division semi-final sets begin tonight as no. 1 seed Rayside Balfour Canadians are home to no. 4 seed Soo Eagles and no. 2 seed Blind River Beavers play host to no. 3 seed Soo Thunderbirds.
