He has opportunities to play in the North American Hockey League but 1997 birth year forward Jake Saxton has opted to return to the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League for the 2017-2018 season.

Eagles general manager Bruno Bragagnolo told HockeyNewsNorth.com that Saxton, who was the captain of the Michigan Soo squad in 2016-2017, has confirmed his intention to return to the NOJHL for his final season of junior eligibility.

“He’s decided he wants to come back and play for us and we are very happy with his decision,” Bragagnolo relayed. “This is big for us. Jake is our captain and a real good player.”

Saxton, who hails from the tiny northwest Michigan town of Interlochen — which has a population of less than 600 — finished third on the Eagles scoring chart in 2016-2017.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound front-liner had 22 goals, 31 assists, 53 points in 56 regular-season contests and added 3 goals, 7 assists, 10 points in 12 playoff games as the Eagles made it to the West Division finals.
