High-scoring forward Roman Gaudet has parlayed parts of two seasons with the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League into a Division 3, National Collegiate Athletic Association commitment.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Michigander is headed to New York to play for the Morrisville State Mustangs.

Gaudet, who has a 1996 birth date, put up big point numbers during 56 NOJHL games with the Eagles over parts of the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 campaigns.

Regular season and playoffs included, Gaudet scored 34 goals, 42 assists, 76 points in the 56 appearances with the Eagles.

Eagles general manager/associate coach Bruno Bragagnolo said Gaudet has the ability to excel at the college level.

“There is no question about Roman’s ability as a hockey player,” Bragagnolo told HockeyNewsNorth.com. “This is a great opportunity for him to continue to play hockey and to get an education at the same time.”

What you think about “Soo Eagles to Morrisville State”

  1. This is real feel good story! Roman had to work real hard for this. It’s not about his hockey ability because I believe he is a D1 player. I am rooting for him to make this work.

  2. Best of luck to Roman. He is a fun to watch player. Also to former Sault High Blue Devil Hunter Krause at Finlania D-3 next year. Also to Bobby Price who is leaving the Blue Devils his senior year for the NAHL at Brookings. Were these two players ever on the Eagle radar ? May have missed the boat on them in our own backyard. Do the Eagles have a scout ?
