Brendan Elliott, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound, 1997 birth-year defenseman, will be returning home to play for the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League this coming season.

Eagles co-coach Jim Capy confirmed the commitment of the big defender, who was born and raised in the Michigan Soo before heading to Milwaukee to play for the midget major Jr. Admirals the past two seasons.

As Capy noted, the Elliott name is synonymous with hockey in the Michigan Soo.

Brendan’s grandfather was an owner of the Soo Indians as members of the old International Jr. B Hockey League of the early 1970s and his father Charlie moved on to play at the Division 1, National Collegiate Athletic Association level for the Michigan State Spartans.

Capy said Elliott turned down other opportunities to commit to the Eagles.

“Obviously we are very pleased to add a local home grown talent to our roster. Brendan had some opportunities in the North American Hockey League and turned down a roster spot with the Melville Millionaires of the Saskatchewan Jr. Hockey League,” said Capy.

“We are getting a big-bodied, hard-to-play-against, team-first guy with outstanding leadership skills and more importantly a great kid,” Capy added in further praise of Elliott.
