Having graduated from the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League, defenseman Owen Kipke has made a commitment to play at Trine University effective the 2018-2019 season.

Based in Indiana, Trine has a Division 3, National Collegiate Athletic Association hockey program.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Kipke becomes the first player from the 2017-2018 edition of the Eagles to make a school commitment. He had 5 goals, 9 assists, 14 points in 32 games with the Eagles before being sidelined with a season-ending injury.

“Despite being out with an injury since the first week of January, his skill and ability were noticed at the NOJHL Showcase and a handful of games that Trine attended at the Pullar Stadium,” Eagles general manager Bruno Bragagnolo told Hockey News North.

“Losing Owen, one of our captains, was a big blow to our D corps but we are thrilled that he impressed enough before he was injured to receive several NCAA D-3 offers.

“Owen is our first commitment from this year’s team and we are extremely happy that all his hard work and effort has paid off. We know he will do well and have a great college career,” Bragagnolo added.
