Soo Eagles v. Soo T-Birds

The border battle that features the Soo Eagles and Soo Thunderbirds continues with the cross-river rivals facing off again tonight.

John Rhodes Community Centre will be the setting for tonight’s match, which is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday in the Michigan Soo, the Thunderbirds left town with a tidy 4-1 win over the Eagles before a season-high crowd of 1,226 at venerable Pullar Stadium.

The Thunderbirds continue to sit atop the West Division of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League with 57 points from a record of 27-8-3. The Eagles are a solid fourth in the West with 47 points from a record of 23-15-1.

Goals for and against tells two sides of the story.

The Thunderbirds have scored 135 goals and have allowed a league-low 78. As for the Eagles, they have scored 154 goals and allowed 106.

Of note, Canadian Soo product Jake Palmerio has scored 18 goals, which is fourth best on the Eagles.

Second-year slinger Nick Smith leads the Thunderbirds in goals with 29. Teammate Mark Tassone has netted 10 goals in just 16 outings since the T-Birds re-acquired him from the Ontario Jr. Hockey League.
