Soo Thunderbirds to Batchewana Attack
Grant Syrette is heading across town from one junior A hockey team to another.
To be sure, the Batchewana Attack of the new Canadian International Hockey League has landed a feared left winger with Ontario Hockey League and Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League experience.
Batchewana general manager Dennis Bolton has confirmed that Syrette, a hulking 6-foot-1, 215 pound port sider, has committed to the Attack for his final season of junior eligibility.
The likeable Syrette, who hails from Garden River First Nation, played 62 games in the OHL for the Mississauga Steelheads before returning home to play in the NOJHL with the Thunderbirds.
In 26 games with the Thunderbirds in 2013-2014, Syrette had 8 goals, 11 assists, 19 points.
Bolton said Batchewana bench boss Denny Lambert — the former Soo Greyhounds player and coach who skated in more than 500 games in the National Hockey League — played a major role in getting Syrette to commit to the Attack.
“Denny was instrumental in acquiring Grant who no doubt will enjoy playing out of Rankin Arena,” said Bolton. “Grant is one tough player who undoubtedly will benefit from Denny’s expertise and coaching style.”

Thunderbirds cant be happy about Grant leaving. I wonder if its a matter of him wanting to leave the Birds or just because of the opp to play for Denny. ??
