Maksim Sushko netted a power play goal at 13:53 of overtime as the visiting Owen Sound Attack shocked the favoured Soo Greyhounds 4-3 tonight in Game 1 of their Ontario Hockey League playoff series at GFL Memorial Gardens.

Game 2 in the best-of-seven, opening-round, Western Conference playoff series is slated for Saturday night at the Gardens.

No. 6 seed Owen Sound had leads of 1-0 and 3-1 before no. 3 ranked Soo knotted the count at 3-3 after two periods.

There was no scoring in the third period, which led to a tense overtime in which both teams had good scoring chances.

Sushko, Zach Poirier and Kaleb Pearson scored regulation-time goals for Owen Sound while Keeghan Howdeshell, Mac Hollowell and Jaromir Pytlik all found range for the Soo before the overtime frame.

Barret Kirwin had a three-assist outing for the Attack.

Goalie Mack Guzda was a standout for Owen Sound with a 43-save performance.

The American-born Guzda, who has a 2001 birth date, was Owen Sound’s second round pick at the 2017 OHL priority selections draft.
