Battalion of the north

Apropos, given its location, that the North Bay Battalion would feature a pair of high-end skaters from the north.

North Bay begins its best-of-seven, second-round, Ontario Hockey League playoff series in Barrie tonight.

The Battalion and Colts both finished the regular season with 85 points but Barrie took second place based on having more wins than North Bay.

Thus, the Colts have home-ice advantage in the series.

North Bay comes into the series having swept the Kingston Frontenacs in four games in the first round.

And as was the case during the regular season, the Battalion got big points from its northern boys.

Sault Ste. Marie product Mike Amadio, who led the Battalion in scoring during the regular season with 71 points, scored 4 goals and added 3 assists in the conquest of Kingston.

And fellow forward Ryan Kujawinski, who hails from Iroquois Falls, followed a 34-goal regular season by tallying twice and adding an assist in the playoff-series win over his former Kingston team.
