Joe Cirella has become the third member of the Soo Greyhounds coaching staff to leave the Ontario Hockey League team since the end of the 2017-2018 season, Hockey News North has confirmed.

The 55-year old Cirella is departing the Soo after six seasons as associate coach to take an assistant coach position with the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League under head coach Cail MacLean.

The departure of Cirella follows that of head coach Drew Bannister and assistant Ryan Ward from the Greyhound bench staff.

Bannister left the Greyhounds to become head coach of the AHL’s San Antonio Rampage and subsequently hired Ward as an assistant.

What you think about “Cirella feels the Heat”

  1. Hi, Randy,
Well, regardless of what we locals thought of our coaches, good or bad,
    they have all been promoted.
Just like the players, they all work towards moving up the ladder.
And, I enjoyed your recent story about living downtown.
Glad to see that Mary and you are settling in nicely.
Miss you guys around the old neighborhood.
    Ronnie B.

    1. Right on, Ronnie.

And thank you for the nice words. Mary and I are really enjoying downtown.

Miss you too, man, message me some time and we can meet for a beer at the New A.

      Regards,

      Randy

  2. Yes Ronnie, it’s great to see promotions but what do you suppose this means for the upcoming hockey season? It will be a whole new ball game (uh hockey game) for 2018-19 don’t you think?
