Mario Culina’s return to the Ontario Hockey League has given the Sudbury Wolves a much-needed lift. The overage goalie, who recently joined the Wolves after beginning the 2017-2018 season with the Ryerson Rams of Ontario University Athletics, has been impressive over three straight starts in the Sudbury net.

A Sault Ste. Marie native, Culina has a 2-1-0 record with a .917 save percentage and 3.00 goals against average since signing with the Wolves off OHL waivers from the Windsor Spitfires, for who he had played the past two seasons.

Culina has faced a healthy 108 shots in three games with the Wolves and stopped 99 of them.

“He has looked really good. He looks calm out there and he plays with a lot of confidence,” Wolves head coach Cory Stillman said of Culina.

Culina’s presence has helped the Wolves in the Eastern Conference standings. With two straight wins, Sudbury takes a record of 9-16-4 into play this week.

The recent two-game winning streak is the first time the Wolves have been able to do that this season.
