Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League went for youth and size in today’s Canadian Hockey League import draft with the selection of Jachym Kondelik from the Czech Republic.

Picking fifth overall in the first round, Wolves general manager Barclay Branch opted for Kondelik, a 6-foot-6, 207-pound left winger who scored 23 goals, 46 assists, 69 points in 44 games with the HC Ceske Budejovice under-18 team in 2015-2016.

Kondelik has a 1999 birth date.

“He is a gifted player who possesses a unique blend of size and skill and has unlimited potential,” Branch said of Kondelik.

Kondelik adds sizeable foundation to the Branch rebuild project in Sudbury where the Wolves have missed the playoffs in each of the past two seasons.
