After all, through two rounds of Ontario Hockey League playoffs, it is the no. 1 and no. 2 seed teams that will face off in the Eastern Conference finals.

It will be the top-seed Peterborough Petes and the Mississauga Steelheads that go head-to-head for Eastern supremacy.

Peterborough is unbeaten thus far in the playoffs with eight straight wins, having swept both the Niagara IceDogs and Kingston Frontenacs.

Mississauga, meanwhile, began the playoffs by upending the Ottawa 67’s in six games before taking the measure of the Oshawa Generals in five.

A sidebar story line is Mississauga overage goalie Matthew Mancina, who was acquired by the Steelheads from the Petes at the beginning of this season.

The Eastern Conference final begins on Thursday in Peterborough.

What you think about “Eastern market supremacy”

  1. The way I see it, the other OHL team in the Memorial Cup will be from the Western Conference. It will either be Erie or London joining Windsor in the Memorial Cup. Peterborough and Mississauga will be a good series, but predict it will go to game 7.
