Ex-OHLer to NOJHL in Hearst
Hard-working, character-kid forward Zack Dorval, who played three full seasons in the Ontario Hockey League before leaving on his own terms following the 2016-2017 season, has signed with the Hearst Lumberjacks of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.
A second-round pick of the Kingston Frontenacs from the Soo Thunder minor midgets in 2014, Dorval was traded to the Ottawa 67’s midway through the 2016-2017 campaign.
But rather than return to Ottawa for the 2017-2018 season, Dorval — who is an academic standout — opted to move on from the OHL and remain at home in the northeastern Ontario town of Hearst this past fall to continue his university studies at a French-oriented school.
Marc Lafleur, who is the coach and general manager of the NOJHL Lumberjacks, confirmed to HockeyNewsNorth.com that the speedy, hard-shooting Dorval — who has a 1998 birth date — will be suiting up with Hearst for the balance of the 2017-2018 campaign.
“We want the kid to enjoy the game again so hopefully this will do it,” Lafleur messaged HockeyNewsNorth.com.
