Top prospect goalie Chazz Nixon has been assigned by the Flint Firebirds of the Ontario Hockey League to the Leamington Flyers of the Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

The GOJHL has been cleared by the Ontario Hockey Federation to begin regular season play in January while the OHL has targeted February as its planned start date.

Hailing from Oshawa, Nixon was picked by Flint in the fifth round of the 2020 OHL priority selections draft and subsequently signed by Firebirds general manager Barclay Branch.

“We are thankful to have an affiliate like Leamington to continue to offer our players an excellent development environment,” relayed Branch. “Having three goaltenders in our system now provides us insurance in one of the most critical positions.

“We will be in constant discussions with Leamington’s staff and regularly monitoring Chazz’s performance with the Flyers,” added Branch.

With Nixon’s commitment, the Firebirds have three signed goaltenders in the system, with veteran holdover Luke Cavallin and understudy Peyton Grainer being the others.
