George and Jake in Guelph
Jake Grimes is leaving his assistant coach position with the Peterborough Petes to work for his old boss George Burnett and the Guelph Storm.
Burnett, who was hired by Guelph earlier this off season as its new coach and general manager, has a long prior working relationship with Grimes in the Ontario Hockey League.
The two were together for 11 seasons, beginning in 2004, with the erstwhile Belleville Bulls where Burnett was coach and GM and Grimes was an assistant coach.
Since departing Belleville, Grimes has spent the past two seasons in Peterborough as an assistant. Burnett has spent the past two seasons with first the Hamilton Bulldogs, then the Flint Firebirds.
In going to Guelph as associate coach and to reunite with Burnett, Grimes replaces Todd Harvey on the Storm staff. Harvey has taken a National Hockey League scouting job.

The Guelph Storm should also pay homage to the 1997-98 team that went all the way to the Memorial Cup final. They lost in overtime, but that team was the best assembled. It’s been 20 years already. George Burnett was head coach, and now he’s the GM. I hope he can bring the Storm back to a dynasty-calibre team.
