First-round pick Brennan Othmann and a host of prospects from the past two drafts — including a pair from the Great North Midget Hockey League — will be among the 30 fresh faces in Flint next weekend as the Firebirds hold their orientation camp.

Othmann, a high-scoring forward who has the potential to be a franchise player in Flint, was taken by the Firebirds with the second overall pick at the 2019 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft from the Don Mills Flyers of the Greater Toronto Hockey League.

Among the others from the 2019 OHL priority selections process who are slated to camp out in Flint next weekend are a pair of third-rounders — defenseman Tyler Dunbar and forward Zacharie Giroux.

Both played in the Great North midget loop last season — Dunbar with the Soo Minor Thunderbirds and Giroux with the Sudbury Minor Wolves. Dunbar was taken 44th overall at this year’s draft while Giroux was picked later in the third round with the 57th selection .

The 30 prospects will be joined by six returnees from the 2018-2019 edition of the Firebirds to make up two teams of players who will show their skills at the May 17-19 camp under the watchful eyes of Flint general manager Barclay Branch and coach Eric Wellwood and his staff.
