Goalie Emanuel Vella stood tall in the Flint Firebirds net tonight. But a lack of quality scoring chances for Flint sent the Firebirds to their seventh straight loss to begin the 2018-2019 Ontario Hockey League season, dropping a 4-1 road decision to the Soo Greyhounds.

Vella played well. Very well. He made one big save after another as he held his team in the game. But he allowed three goals before the Soo iced the match with an empty net marker.

The Soo swarmed Flint with a 41-22 shots advantage as the Greyhounds improved their record to 4-3-1 and the Firebirds fell to 0-7-0.

Barrett Hayton, Cole MacKay, Keeghan Howdeshell and Morgan Frost tallied for the Soo while Eric Uba scored his first OHL goal for Flint.
