Soo Greyhounds have sent 2000 birth year right winger Ryan Roth to the Sarnia Sting in an Ontario Hockey League trade that was completed today.

In return for the small, skilled skater, the Greyhounds will receive a second-round draft pick in 2022 and a fourth-round selection in 2021. Should Roth play as an overager for Sarnia next season, the Soo will get an extra fifth-round pick from the Sting in 2023.

The American-born Roth, who had two goals, four assists, six points in six games for the Soo this season, was signed by the Greyhounds as a free agent prior to the start of the 2017-2018 campaign.

In 142 regular season games for the Greyhounds, Roth netted 38 goals, 43 assists, 81 points. He never missed a regular season game for the Soo in his two-plus years with the Greyhounds.

Roth joins a struggling Sarnia squad that has an 0-5-0 record to start this season.

Meanwhile, Sarnia general manager Nick Sinclair noted what he is hopeful of what Roth will bring to the Sting.

“Since the onset of training camp we have been targeting the addition of another older forward who could come in to provide additional experience and offense with our current younger nucleus,” Sinclair relayed. “Ryan is a player who brings skill and the ability to score in all situations.”
