After a lengthy process, Ryan Ward has been named the new assistant coach of the Ontario Hockey League’s Soo Greyhounds.

The 29-year old, American-born Ward joins second-year head coach Drew Bannister and veteran associate coach Joe Cirella behind the Greyhound bench.

“He is a high-energy individual who thinks outside the box. Through his experiences, he brings a variety of abilities that will benefit not only our players but our entire hockey program,” Greyhound general manager Kyle Raftis said of Ward.

Ward joins the Greyhounds after two years as video coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

The new Greyhound assistant graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Ward replaces former assistant coach Donald MacLean, whose one-year contract was not renewed by the Greyhounds following the 2015-2016 OHL season.
