Kingston Frontenacs have officially confirmed ahead of Saturday’s Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft that they will take center Shane Wright with the no. 1 pick.

With a 2004 birth date, Wright was granted exceptional player status by Hockey Canada in order to enter the OHL draft a year ahead of schedule.

Saturday’s OHL draft, which begins at 9 a.m. and will be conducted via the Internet, is geared towards players born in 2003.

As for Wright, he is coming off of a 2018-2019 season in which he starred for the Don Mills Flyers and was named minor midget player-of-the-year in the Greater Toronto Hockey League. In all, the 6-foot, 180-pound Wright produced 66 goals, 84 assists, 150 points in 72 games for Don Mills.

As Wright is going to Kingston as the no. 1 pick, his Don Mills linemate, Brennan Othmann, is poised to go second overall to the Flint Firebirds.

Earlier this week, Flint general manager Barclay Branch told Hockey News North that Othmann and his family had committed to the Firebirds ahead of Saturday’s draft.

Othmamn rang up 146 points for Don Mills during the 2018-2019 season.
