Lining up to work for 67’s

Two very attractive positions in the Ontario Hockey League have opened up with the resignation of Jeff Brown as coach and general manager of the Ottawa 67’s.

67’s part owner and governor Jeff Hunt is on record as saying the team will split up the dual role that Brown performed and hire a GM who will in turn hire a new head coach.

No doubt that Hunt’s mail box is going to be overflowing with applications for the GM job from qualified candidates aplenty.

It is suspected that not only will there be interest from current OHL personnel but from former managers and coaches, not to mention up-and-coming men from lower-level junior leagues and even some with a link to a National Hockey League team, be it as an assistant or a scout. The 67’s could also choose to hire from within.

So, to recap that run-on sentence and the one following it — there will be a multitude of applicants with an interest in working for the 67’s, who have a reputation as a good, clean organization.

Some “name” guys — who may or may not pursue the GM job in Ottawa — quickly come to mind.

Reputable, experienced hockey men such as OHL GM-turned-NHL scout Jeff Twohey and Marty Williamson, formerly of the Barrie Colts and Niagara IceDogs, would be safe choices, should they choose to apply.

Still, we could pen a list of a dozen or so good hockey men who would come highly recommended and who Hunt and his ownership partners could make a choice from and not go wrong.

  1. Williamson would be a great choice . . . . provven winner in the League with 2 Teams etc. etc.

  2. Marty Williamson – great fit for the 67’s. Other coaches, other than Brian Kilrea that didn’t seem to fit the job.
