Moore is more in OHL

There is an unlikely leader atop the Ontario Hockey League scoring chart in the person of Flint Firebirds forward Ryan Moore.

While Moore is coming off a productive 2015-2016 season in which he finished second on the Firebirds with 48 points from 25 goals and 23 assists, his ascension as the OHL’s points leader thus far in 2016-2017 is a bit startling.

In seven games to date, Moore has eight goals, nine assists, 17 points. And not only does the 5-foot-8, 170-pound, 1997 birth-year skater have at least one point in every game thus far this season but he has goals in six of Flint’s seven contests.

Originally a second-round draft pick of the Windsor Spitfires in 2013, Moore hails from the Detroit area suburb of Troy, Michigan.

As part of a new-look team concept in Flint under rookie head coach Ryan Oulahen and general manager George Burnett, the Firebirds are off to a good start to the ’16-17 season with a record of 4-2-1.

But three games in three nights loom as a major test for the Firebirds this week with outings at Windsor on Thursday and then home to the Mississauga Steelheads on Friday and the Barrie Colts on Saturday.
