Slick defender Payton Vescio of the North Bay Trappers has been selected by the North Bay Battalion in the fourth round of today’s Ontario Hockey League minor midget draft.

The 6-foot, 160-pound defenseman was a Great North Midget Hockey League standout with North Bay during the 2016-2017 season and helped the Trappers win the bronze medal at the Ontario Hockey Federation provincial championships.

Strong on his skates and on the puck, Vescio showed an offensive side during the Great North regular season with 6 goals, 20 assists, 26 points in 36 games. His strong season earned him a spot on Team NOHA at last month’s OHL Cup.

Vescio’s dad, Kevin Vescio, is a former standout defenseman who played in the OHL from 1983 to 1986 with the old North Bay Centennials.
