1998 birth year left winger Daniil Vertiy is on the move from the North Bay Battalion to the Saginaw Spirit, HockeyNewsNorth.com has confirmed.

Saginaw gives up a 15th round pick at the 2018 Ontario Hockey League draft in exchange for the fourth-year, Russian-born port sider.

Vertiy had a goal and an assist in five games for the Battalion this season after tallying 14 times for the Troops in 2016-2017. He was originally a second-round pick of the Windsor Spitfires in 2014 after moving from Russia to Canada to play for the North York Rangers of the Greater Toronto Hockey League.

Saginaw, with a record of 2-5-1 thus far this OHL season, has struggled to score with just 21 goals in eight games and Spirit general manager Dave Drinkill is hopeful that Vertiy can add some production to the young team.

“Vertiy has proven he can score at this level coming off of a career year in North Bay. We are excited to add a player of his caliber at this point in the season,” Drinkill relayed.
