OHL scouts eye Great North

Scouts from a number of Ontario Hockey League teams have casually confirmed they will have a presence in North Bay and Sudbury this weekend as the Great North Midget Hockey League begins semi-final playoff action.

In North Bay, the Trappers are home to the Kapuskasing Flyers for Games 1 and 2 of a best-of-five set.

In Sudbury, the Nickel Capital Wolves are home to the Soo Greyhounds for a pair of matches.

This is a big year as far as the OHL draft goes for players in a midget league such as the Great North loop.

Not only will the annual under-16 draft be held in April but the OHL has added a new under-18 selection for previously-bypassed skaters with 1999 and 2000 birth dates.

From the Greyhounds, as an example, while 2001 birth-year forward Camaryn Baber looms as a sure-fire selection for the April 8 under-16 draft, several others from the Soo are possible picks for the April 12 under-18 draft.

Greyhounds with 2000 birth dates whose names have been heard as potential selections for the under-18 draft are defenseman Bradon Caruso and forwards Caleb Wood and Noah Boman, among others.

  1. Them 3 with the 2000 Birthday’s that you mention and I think that maybe Morgan also might get picked.
Another good write up. Thanks Randy.
