It has taken Saginaw Spirit left winger Nick Porco just seven games into the 2018-2019 Ontario Hockey League regular season to surpass his goal total from the 2017-2018 campaign.

The 2001 birth year skater tallied a pair of goals — including a spectacular, breakaway marker in which he used his separation speed to blow past two defenders — to spark Saginaw past the Erie Otters 4-3 in OHL action from Saturday.

Porco now has 7 goals in 7 games to begin the 2018-2019 season. He scored 5 goals in 57 games for Saginaw through all of the 2017-2018 regular season and added another tally in four playoff matches.

Porco’s seven goals thus far this season have him tied for the OHL lead with Serron Noel of the Oshawa Generals.

A Sault Ste. Marie product, Porco was Saginaw’s first round pick, fourth overall, at the 2017 OHL priority selections draft.

Saturday’s win for the Spirit was its third straight and improved Saginaw’s record to 4-2-1.
