Porco, Baber star at Gold Cup

Featuring the top 2001 birth-year players in Ontario, the 2017 edition of the eight-team OHL Gold Cup tournament wrapped up on the weekend.

All eight teams played five games apiece at the annual OHL Gold Cup, which is part of Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence.

Two Sault Ste. Marie products, both of who were selected by the Saginaw Spirit at the 2017 Ontario Hockey League draft, stood out at the Gold Cup, which was held in Kitchener.

Forward Nick Porco finished with the second most points in the tournament, scoring three goals and adding five assists while suiting up for Team GTHL Blue. Porco was Saginaw’s first-round pick at the recent OHL minor midget draft.

And forward Camaryn Baber led winless Team NOHA in scoring with one goal, two assists, three points. Baber was a third-round pick of Saginaw at the April 8 OHL lottery.

    1. Cam Baber is so talented , he would have been drafted to the OHL even if my 88 year old grandmother had coached him.

  1. I sure hope not selecting Baber doesn’t bite us (Soo Greyhounds) in the ass in the long run !!!
