Reigning Ontario Hockey League champion Hamilton Bulldogs held a retro night on Saturday. And as part of the attraction for the game against the visiting Sarnia Sting, the Bulldogs invited members of the 1976 OHL and Memorial Cup champion Hamilton Fincups to be part of the festivities.

In photo above, Sting forward Ryan McGregor (far left) and Bulldogs forward Brandon Saigeon (far right) pose for the ceremonial opening face off with former Fincups (second, from left to right) Al Jensen, Mike Keating, Ron Roscoe, Mark Locken — who later tended goal for the Soo Greyhounds — and Danny Shearer and Bulldogs president/general manager Steve Staios.

Of note, the 1976 champion Fincups were coached by the late, legendary Bert Templeton.

What you think about “Retro night in Hamilton”

  1. This is amazing! I wish I didn’t miss out on this… and I wish I would of known about this event! My dad was (Bob) Robert Mierkalns and he played for the fincups and was part of the 1976 memorial cup championship. I actually have his 1976 trophy on my mantle. And my son has his grandfathers fincups jersey framed and hung above his bed. Bob Mierkalns passed away February 11, 2010. My son Eli is 10 and playing hockey and has had a lot of hockey questions about his grandfather… We have been doing research on the fincups and this is how I found out about retro night… we just found it a month too late! We are searching for any footage of the fincups if it even exists. If this reunion or retro night ever happens again I would love to attend with my son!

  2. Ashleigh I may have a Fincups program I’ll look it out in January when I return from overseas. If your Dads in it….its yours.
