Looking to solidify its net worth with the graduation of overage backstop Evan Cormier, Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League selected Russian-born goalie Ivan Prosvetov with the 13th overall pick at today’s Canadian Hockey League import draft.

Prosvetov, who has a 1999 birth date, is already familiar with junior hockey in North America. The 6-foot-5 goalie played in the United States Hockey League in 2017-2018 and in the North American Hockey League in 2016-2017.

Prosvetov is also a National Hockey League prospect of the Arizona Coyotes, having been picked by them in the fourth round of the 2018 draft.

Saginaw general manager Dave Drinkill provided some insight on his new goalie acquisition.

“He is a very big, athletic and competitive goalie. We are excited about his upside and potential and look forward to getting him started with us in training camp,” Drinkill relayed.

Saginaw does have returning OHL experience between the pipes in Cameron Lamour, a 2000 birth year goalie who was the backup to the aforementioned Cormier this past season.
