Saginaw Spirit will have to do without starting goalie Ivan Prosvetov and overage defensemen Justin Murray via lengthy suspensions handed down by the Ontario Hockey League today.

Both sentences are a result of infractions from Game 2 of Saginaw’s Western Conference championship series with the Guelph Storm.

Prosvetov has been handed a five-game suspension for intentionally batting a puck into the spectator area during a stoppage in play.

And Murray will miss the next four games as the result of a checking to the head penalty that he received.

Both players have been key performers thus far in the playoffs.

Prosvetov has a 9-2 record with a 2.38 goals against average and .930 save percentage while Murray has seven points in 12 games while playing major minutes on the Saginaw blue line.

With Prosvetov on the sidelines, 16-year old rookie Tristan Lennox will take over as Saginaw’s starter between the pipes.

By virtue of a pair of home-ice victories, Saginaw leads the best-of-seven series two games to none. Game 3 is slated for tonight in Guelph.
