Seventh sojourn

Tonight’s the night. Whether it’s Rod Stewart singing it or not, tonight is the night for the Soo Greyhounds and Owen Sound Attack.

The seventh and deciding game of the second round, Ontario Hockey League Western Conference playoff series is slated for a 7:07 p.m. start in downtown Houndtown.

Still the favourites, despite having been extended to the limit by the no. 4 seed Attack, the top-ranked Greyhounds will need a bounce-back match after losing Game 6 by a resounding 7-1 margin.

But really, does it matter that the score was 7-1 in Game 6? A win is a win and a loss is a loss, whether the score is 7-1 or 2-1.

Hot dogs, top dogs, whatever moniker suits them, the Greyhounds will have a wave of red shirts and leather-lunged fans urging them on to Game 7 victory and a spot in the Western Conference finals against the no. 2 seed Kitchener Rangers.

Underdogs, the Attack will look to a mere pup to try to backstop it to an improbable series victory.

2001 birth-year goalie Mack Guzda is expected to make only his second career OHL playoff start tonight as Owen Sound head coach Todd Gill has indicated he will opt for the rookie over veteran Olivier Lafreniere.

What you think about “Seventh sojourn”

  1. It’s in the nature of many hockey fans to root for the underdog and in this case, I guess I’d be pulling for the small market Attack to advance. Unlikely when all things are considered, but if OS does pull it off, I’m sure Don Cherry will lecture viewers about the revenge of the hockey gods.
