Camaryn Baber will be joining fellow Sault Ste. Marie product Nicholas Porco in the lineup tonight when the visiting Saginaw Spirit takes on the Soo Greyhounds in an Ontario Hockey League matchup.

Baber is being summoned from the Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League for tonight’s game, Saginaw general manager Dave Drinkill told Hockey News North.

“This is a reward to Cam for playing so well with the Thunderbirds to get another game with the Spirit … and in his home town,” Drinkill relayed via telephone.

A centre with a 2001 birth date, Baber is second in scoring on the NOJHL Thunderbirds, having put up 10 goals, 29 assists, 39 points in 38 games.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Baber was one of Saginaw’s third-round picks (57th overall) at the 2017 OHL draft. He played in seven games with the Spirit earlier this season and picked up his first OHL point, an assist.

He joins fellow forward Porco — who was Saginaw’s first round pick, fourth overall, at the 2017 OHL draft — in the lineup for the Spirit tonight against the league-leading Greyhounds.

Saginaw is a solid fifth in the Western Conference with a respectable record of 24-19-5 as a young, overachieving team that is developing a year ahead of schedule as a projected contender for 2018-2019 and beyond.
