Overage defenseman Justin Murray, acquired earlier in the day from the Barrie Colts, picked up a pair of assists and Sault Ste. Marie product Nick Porco scored his 12th goal of the season as the Saginaw Spirit continued its recent rise with a 5-3 win over the Mississauga Steelheads.

Despite missing four defensemen due to injury, Saginaw took two of three games on the road over the weekend to boost its record to 16-11-3 within the Western Conference of the Ontario Hockey League.

The Spirit now has a 5-2-1 record over its last 8 games since general manager Dave Drinkill made a bold move to fire head coach Troy Smith and promote associate coach Chris Lazary to bench boss.
