Three was a crowd ergo two is company and Flint Firebirds of the Ontario Hockey League have opted to go with erstwhile Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League standout Garrett Forrest and Connor Hicks as their goalies.

In sticking with the two 1997 birth-year goalies as their main men between the pipes, the Firebirds have assigned 1998 birth-year netminder Matthew Menna to the Cobourg Cougars of the Ontario Jr. Hockey League, Flint general manager George Burnett confirmed to HockeyNewsNorth.com.

An OHL rookie, Forrest has proven his net worth in two appearances with the Firebirds. The former NOJHL all-star with the Powassan Voodoos has stopped 49 of 50 shots in 106 minutes with the Firebirds for a .980 save percentage to go with a 0.57 goals against average and 1-1 record.

Hicks, an OHL veteran who was recently acquired by Flint from the Hamilton Bulldogs, has an .893 save percentage, 3.90 goals against average and 2-0-1 record with the Firebirds.

As the odd man out in Flint, Menna started and finished two games with the Firebirds and had a .900 save percentage, 2.00 goals against average and 1-1 record.

Overall this season, the Firebirds — who missed the Western Conference playoffs in 2015-2016 — have a record of 4-2-1.
