Two jobs open in Saginaw
As July gets ready to give way to August and inch closer to the opening of training camps in the Ontario Hockey League, Saginaw Spirit now has two coaching positions to fill.
Long-time Saginaw assistant coach and assistant general manager John Kisil has become the second member of the Spirit staff to resign his position with the OHL team this week.
Kisil has accepted a scouting position in the National Hockey League. His departure from Saginaw follows the exit of head coach Spencer Carbery, who has moved on to the minor pro, American Hockey League as an assistant coach.
Kisil had been with Saginaw since 2007 while Carbery was with the Spirit for just one season.
Coaches with prior OHL experience who are expected to be considered for a position with the Spirit include Troy Smith, formerly of the Kitchener Rangers and Hamilton Bulldogs and Jason Fortier, who also had a stint with Kitchener.
How about Tony Curtale?
I would be surprised if Tony Curtale is the next head coach of the Spirit.
It would be nice to see Jason get an opportunity. He’s earned it.
Chris Lazary would be my guess for HC. Troy Smjth is the talent killer himself. Saginaw is in trouble if they go that way.
Troy Smith is a horrible coach, he was out coached every road game. The guys a decent assistant but not in Saginaw.
