Sudbury Wolves have a lengthy Ontario Hockey League history that dates back to 1972. And now, the Wolves have their very own historian.

The OHL club has confirmed that Sudbury native Mike Commito has joined the Wolves in the newly-created role of team historian.

Ahead of the Wolves upcoming 50th anniversary as an OHL member team in 2022, the Sudbury organization has brought in Commito to help relay the stories and memories that have shaped the franchise.

Andrew Dale, who is the Wolves vice president of marketing and development and who played for Sudbury’s OHL team from 1993 to 1996, is looking forward to Commito re-telling many of the stories.

“Early on in the 2016-2017 season, we looked hard at the five-year strategic plan and right there on the horizon was that huge celebration of 50 years of Wolves hockey in the OHL,” Dale began.

“There are great stories locked away in the memories that form a significant part of the sporting culture and emotional history (in Sudbury),” Dale added. “We look forward to Mike’s energy and passion for sharing hockey stories of historical interest to the community leading into the 50th as we celebrate a renaissance in the region.”
