Wolves, Knights swap forwards

Sudbury Wolves and London Knights have completed an Ontario Hockey League trade involving a pair of veteran forwards.

The Wolves have shipped 18-year old Brady Pataki, a third-round draft pick in 2018 and a sixth-round selection in 2017 to the Knights for grinding, overage forward C.J. Yakimowicz.

This marks the third time in less than a year that Sudbury general manager Barclay Branch has made a trade with London.

Earlier, in separate transactions, Branch traded multiple draft picks to the Knights for forward Ryan Valentini and defenseman Aiden Jamieson.

In getting Yakimowicz in his latest deal with London, Branch touched on what the rugged, 6-foot-2, 210-pound right winger brings to Sudbury.

“We were looking to add size and experience as areas we wanted to address and C.J. brings that with him,” Branch told HockeyNewsNorth.com. “His experiences from playing in two Memorial Cup tournaments with London — and winning one — are invaluable and played an important part in our thinking when we made this trade.

“Any time you can add a quality veteran like C.J. to the young nucleus that we have is a positive step for us,” Branch added in further praise of Yakimowicz, who was a sixth-round, National Hockey League draft pick of the St. Louis Blues in 2014.

What you think about “Wolves, Knights swap forwards”

  1. Love the deal ! Even though CJ is an overager and we only get to see him for one year , he will certainly bring some much needed personality and hype to this team. He is also a very skilled 2 way forward that was on arguably one of the best shutdown lines in the CHL for the Knights last year . Hopefully he teaches this young squad how to backcheck! After that downright embarrassing loss on Sunday vs Kitch and an equally bad effort put out 2 Sundays ago in Mississauga , the trade is a breathe of fresh air. Welcome aboard CJ ! Show these boys how to work for 60 min consistently at both ends of the ice and il already be very happy with your contribution.

  2. I do like what Branch is doing as our G.M. Good for him for weeding out those who need a change of seenery and bringing in guy’s who can actually help us.
