Local product Noah Zeppa has a Plan B in place if he doesn’t crack the roster of the Soo Greyhounds for the 2019-2020 Ontario Hockey League season. The 2002 birth-year goalie has signed with the Chatham Maroons of the Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League, Hockey News North has confirmed.

Zeppa was selected by the Greyhounds in the second round of the 2019 OHL under-18 draft after a spectacular season with the Soo Major Thunderbirds of the Great North Midget Hockey League.

Despite the fact that the Soo midgets won only 12 of 36 regular-season games, Zeppa was named Most Valuable Player of the nine-team, Great North.

Previously bypassed at the 2018 OHL priority selections draft, Zeppa was quickly scooped up by the Greyhounds in the second round of this year’s under-18 proceedings.

Zeppa showed well at the Greyhounds spring prospects camp and will try to earn a spot at main camp later this summer.

The Greyhounds do return holdover backup Ethan Taylor, who has a 2001 birth date, and recently traded for overage (1999 birth date) goalie Christian Propp from the North Bay Battalion.

As for signing with Chatham of the GOJHL, Maroons coach Kyle Makaric told Hockey News North that Zeppa “has a lot going for him.

“We had seen video of him and we saw him up up close at our spring tryout camp,” Makaric relayed. “We like his compete level, his demeanour, his work ethic, the way he prepares and his attention to detail. There is so much to like about Noah.”
