Burks backstops Monarchs to victory
Rookie goalie Joseph Burks made 26 saves and the MC Monarchs edged the visiting Berkley Bruins 2-1 in Midwest Jr. Hockey League action from Tuesday.
Young Burks, who has a 1999 birth date, got the offensive support he needed from MWJHL scoring leaders Adam Jonak and Trevor Pode, who tallied goals for the Monarchs.
Jonak and Pode are 1-2 in scoring in the MWJHL.
Jonak leads the parade with a remarkable 22 goals, 31 assists, 53 points in 13 games followed by Pode at 15-22-37.
The win was the fourth straight for MC, which improved its record to 10-3 on the season.
Colton James scored the only goal for Berkley.
