Homegrown defenseman Rhett McDonald will be returning to the Alpena Flyers of the U.S. Premier Hockey League for the 2016-2017 campaign.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound McDonald totaled an impressive 14 goals, 24 assists, 38 points in 38 games with the Flyers in 2015-2016.

Alpena head coach Russ Anderson is excited to have McDonald back with the Flyers.

““Rhett is one of the players we really focused on from last year to have back on the team,” Anderson said of McDonald. “He provides us with a huge presence on defense and is a threat to rush the puck at any moment and set up a scoring opportunity.

“His work ethic is top notch and it continues to show when he is on the ice. I can’t say enough about his leadership on and off the ice,” Anderson added, in further praise of McDonald.
