Motor City re-brand
Motor City Monarchs, formerly of the erstwhile Midwest Jr. Hockey League, now of the U.S. Premier Hockey League, have reached an affiliate agreement with the Michigan Ice Hawks youth association.
As part of the new arrangement, the Monarchs will now be known as the Motor City Hawks as they move forward towards their inaugural 2015-2016 season as members of the USPHL’s 20-team, junior A, Midwest Division.
This follows a successful 2014-2015 season for Motor City, which finished in second place as an expansion team in the MWJHL.
“Having the Monarchs join the Ice Hawks completes our organization and has virtually extended the hockey life of our players locally. It will raise the level of play and inspire our teams to work harder,” said Ice Hawks president and founder Myke Nevin.
As the Motor City Hawks, the former Monarchs will continue to play at Fraser Hockeyland as members of the USPHL.
“What this effectively does is align us with one of the best and largest youth hockey associations in the state and give us the opportunity to utilize the Ice Hawks player development platform,” said Motor City general manager Mark Gilman, who will retain ownership of the re-branded Hawks along with head coach Jason McCrimmon and realtor Patti Gilman.
