Alpena d-man off to Oakland U

Shane Dawson, a 1995 birth-year defenseman with the Alpena Flyers of the U.S. Premier Hockey League’s Midwest Division, has committed to play for the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies of the Division 1, American Collegiate Hockey Association effective the 2016-2017 season.

In 30 games with Alpena during the 2015-2016 regular season, Dawson had three goals, twelve assists, 15 points and 99 minutes in penalties.

Alpena, which finished the ’15-16 regular-season with a record of 15-32-1, will face the Traverse City North Stars in the first round of the upcoming playoffs.

In heading to Oakland University, which is located just north of Detroit in the Auburn Hills/Rochester area, Dawson plans to study occupational safety.

As Oakland U looks ahead to the 2016-2017 ACHA season, the Golden Grizzlies are reportedly interested in Jake Hernandez, a 1995 birth-year forward with the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

  1. This is well deserved for this young man as Dawson is a tuff kid with a lot of heart ; two traites that are quite obvious. I know that the Irish players that I know have a ton of respect for him.
